Today Kindergarten students practiced retelling a story using toys and puppets. Each week we emphasize different elements of our retelling guide. We have reviewed setting in regards to both place and time, characters, as well as beginning, middle and end stories. Kindergarten students also continue to learn how to check out books independently.
All students and staff at Quail Run participated in our Vote for Books election. Our Quail Run citizens did a wonderful job campaigning respectfully for their candidate. Check out the presentation below to see the results of the election for each of the primary grades and the electoral college election.
Inspired by Lois Ehlert's book Color Zoo, Kindergarten students created paper shape animals as well as pattern block animals.
Students of all ages celebrated International Dot Day by creating thier own dot that exemplified how they would positively make their mark at Quail Run this year. This special day is inspired by Peter Reynolds' book The Dot. Read more about his book and the day it has inspired here. Kindergarten students have been learning about ladybugs during science. As part of the Eric Carle author study the kids have also learned about his painting and collage style. After a busy day of painting they created their own Eric Carle inspired ladybugs.
Kindergarten kiddos celebrated Dr Seuss' birthday by listening to stories, playing Dr Seuss character Memory and creating bookmarks for the whole building.
Kindergarten students created bookmarks for Read Across America Day. They also practiced "picture walks" with their fuzzy buddies. Book Grab Bags are still available for Kindergarten families. If you have already enrolled in the program and would like another book simply fill out a form in the basket by Mrs Bowman's door or email me and we'll send a bag home with your child. If you haven't enrolled yet, fill out the form on the link or email me and we'll send home a paper form. After book care lessons and lots of practice, this week Kindergarten students took their library oath today. After taking the oath they read to their fuzzy buddies and were excited to take their books home this week.
