Mrs. Barr's Second Graders worked in groups to research, take notes, write, film and edit commercials about our National Parks. Their hard work is evident in the commercials they finished today. Watch Mrs. Barr's rangers tell you all about the parks on their Vimeo Channel.
Happy Halloween! Miss Gorup

Kindergarten students listened to several monster stories by Ed Emberly and then created a monster of their own. Listen to Ed Emberly's granddaughter sing some of the songs from the books on Scholastic. If You're A Monster and You Know It There Was An Old Monster Mrs Pendry's first graders listened to Hello, Bumblebee Bat by Darrin Lunde and then shared what they had learned using the ChatterPix Kids app. Second Graders shared their insect creations with the Kindergarten students today. After using Pebble Go to learn about insects, each second grader created a bug for the museum. The kindergarten students were an attentive audience and did a great job showing their best "museum" behavior. Have a wonderful weekend! Miss Gorup Fourth grade students were excited to welcome illustrator Brad Sneed to Quail Run last week. He inspired students with stories about growing up and becoming an illustrator. Students posted their reflections about his visit on Flipgrid. Enjoy! Miss Gorup First graders concluded their unit on safety by writing and recording safety tips. Listen to their safety tips on Flipgrid. They had great ideas to share!
Stay safe! Miss Gorup The library has 30 library page volunteers that help keep the library running smoothly. These fifth graders come before school or give up their recess one day a week to volunteer. Each library page has a shelf in the library they maintain. In addition to being a "shelf elf" they also make deliveries, prepare supplies and help other students. We are so fortunate to have these hard working students to help us out!
Have a wonderful Wednesday! Miss Gorup This week third graders began meeting with their book clubs. The kids have taken the responsibility of leading their own book discussions very seriously. When asked what was one of the biggest challenges of book club, one third grader responded, "Waiting for someone else to finish talking before I take my turn." If you'd like to have your own at home book club, check the Lawrence Public Library Book Club in a Bag program. Happy Reading! Miss Gorup Third and fifth graders learned how to use Storybird, a site that allows them to use a variety of artwork to create their own digital picture books and poems. As students complete their stories they can publish them to the class library. Students have enjoyed reading everyone's books. Students of all ages have been learning how to access and navigate the variety of digital subscriptions and ebooks we have in our library. Links to Pebble Go, Capstone Interactive, True Flix and Follett Shelf can all be found on the home page of the library catalog. Students have been using these resources for research as well as during Daily Five time in the classroom. Many of the sites have read aloud features which makes them accessible to students of all ages. |

Ms GorupI've been lucky enough to be the librarian at Quail Run for the last ten years. I hope to use this site to share some of the highlights of our busy days in the library! |
