Kindergarten students created bookmarks for Read Across America Day. They also practiced "picture walks" with their fuzzy buddies. Book Grab Bags are still available for Kindergarten families. If you have already enrolled in the program and would like another book simply fill out a form in the basket by Mrs Bowman's door or email me and we'll send a bag home with your child. If you haven't enrolled yet, fill out the form on the link or email me and we'll send home a paper form.

The library has 20 fifth grade library pages who help each week. These amazing fifth graders come in early before school or give up their recess one day a week to work in the library. They help with a variety of jobs including deliveries and preparing materials for younger students. This week our library pages saved the day for a group of second graders finishing a digital project. The girls alternated doing their regular jobs and patiently helping the group of second graders with their Adobe Voice. How lucky we are to have such helpful students!
Sometimes a case of the wiggles calls for a dance party! Our favorite Mo Willems' characters Piggie & Elephant lead a dance party on his Pigeon Presents website. It makes a perfect brain break for our Kindergarten friends!
First graders worked together to complete the STEM challenge inspired by Dr Seuss' If I Ran The Zoo. Each team built a cage for the zoo animal that was strong enough to hold up the book. This year fourth graders have been learning about folktales. This week we focused on tall tales. In class they read Paul Bunyan and in the library we read Pecos Bill. Working with a partner students participated in a STEM challenge to use 8 plastic bags to create a working lasso. Kindergarteners wrote their own "pea" person story after listening to Eric Baker's book LMNO Peas. After writing a story about their character they worked with a peer "coach" to post their final products on Seesaw. Be sure to check your students Seesaw account to listen to the story!
Fifth graders were excited to get copies of this year's Read Across Lawrence book, The True Meaning of Smekday. Be sure to check the Lawrence Public Library website for more information about the special events held throughout the month.
Fifth graders performed readers theater plays for their classes. Each play was about a different event in the American Revolution. Our students are natural born actors! We are so lucky to have such avid readers. I was reminded of that today when 5th graders were searching for a genre focus book and there was a rush to the shelves and a scramble for a book!
