This week in the library Fourth Graders started using Bookopolis. Bookopolis is a kid friendly site where students can find book ideas, review books or recommend books to friends. Similar to Good Reads, this site has the Kid Safe Seal and is a great place where kids can talk about books.
After fifth grade students wrote nominations for a variety of book candidates third, fourth and fifth graders voted for their favorite in our primary election. The field will be narrowed from twenty candidates to five. Stay tuned for more Vote for Books election updates or visit our VFB site.
Students of all ages celebrated International Dot Day by creating thier own dot that exemplified how they would positively make their mark at Quail Run this year. This special day is inspired by Peter Reynolds' book The Dot. Read more about his book and the day it has inspired here. To prepare for programming our new KIBO robots second graders played "KIBO Says". They learned how to write movement and sound programs as well as incorporate repeat blocks. They will use this next week when they build programs for the robots and not each other!
Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders have the option to participate in the Olympic Reading Challenge. It encourages them to read books from different sections of the library or do a short research exploration about a topic related to the Olympics. We discussed it during our first library lesson and students have until September 30th to complete five challenges to earn all of the olympic rings. Learn more about the Olympic Reading Challenge from your student or by reading about it on the ORC tab on the library website.
Over the course of two weeks Quail Run readers have already checked out 2, 034 books! Keep up the wonderful reading!
