All students and staff at Quail Run participated in our Vote for Books election. Our Quail Run citizens did a wonderful job campaigning respectfully for their candidate. Check out the presentation below to see the results of the election for each of the primary grades and the electoral college election.
Students of all ages celebrated International Dot Day by creating thier own dot that exemplified how they would positively make their mark at Quail Run this year. This special day is inspired by Peter Reynolds' book The Dot. Read more about his book and the day it has inspired here. After listening to the book Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds first graders worked together to build a fence to keep the carrots in the yard. Each team had popsicle sticks, yarn and tape as their construction supplies. It was great to see how creative each team was.
What better way to celebrate Dr Seuss' birthday than to have fun looking for a new book? First graders played musical books, similar to musical chairs, except no one is ever out!
Happy Read Across America Day! First graders worked together to complete the STEM challenge inspired by Dr Seuss' If I Ran The Zoo. Each team built a cage for the zoo animal that was strong enough to hold up the book.
Last week we celebrated National Library Week by learning how to do things in the library. Kindergarten students learned how to use Pebble Go, while first grade students learned how to write a book talk. Second, third, fourth and fifth graders used a variety of books from the nonfiction section to learn how to do everything from speak a new language to perform magic tricks. Everyone had a great time celebrating libraries. See why the fifth graders think we celebrate National Library Week by watching their posts on Flipgrid.
First graders found that Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen's book Sam and Dave Dig A Hole is full of surprises. I loved getting to see their reaction to the illustrations.
