April's celebration of poetry month and National Library Week kept us busy reading and sharing. Kindergarten students became illustrators as they channeled their inner artist to create Eric Carle inspired illustrations. Be sure to look for the ladybugs they made hanging in the front hallway. Have a great week! Miss Gorup

March began with Read Across America Day. Each year on March 2nd, Dr Seuss' Birthday we celebrate reading. The Olymipc Reading Challenge continues- only one week left to go! Students have been busy writing poems and stories. Keep checking to blog for links to their creations! Happy Reading! Miss Gorup February has flown! Despite all of our snow days, students still checked out over 2,600 books this month. This month the 700's section was still the most popular area in nonfiction. Second through fifth graders started work on the Olympic Reading challenge that will continue through March 14. Keep Reading! Miss Gorup We were lucky enough to welcome author Kate Klise to Quail Run this week. She was an inspiration to our fifth grade authors. She showed them how to develop stories of their own. Most importantly she took time to answer their questions and get them excited about reading and writing. The second graders began work on their simile stories- check back in the next few weeks to see their finished products! Happy Reading! Miss Gorup I hope everyone had time to do lots of reading during our extended snow "vacation". The kids are excited to continue the Olympic Reading challenge. Read more about it under the Olympics tab. Enjoy the long weekend! Miss Gorup The last month has gone quickly. We had the opportunity to try some new projects and use a new approach with some old favorites. In addition to lots of learning our students did lots of reading. Over 2,600 books were checked out in January. This month the 700's section - home to the drawing, magic trick and sports books- was the most popular area of nonfiction. I can't wait to see what February brings! Enjoy your snow days! Miss Gorup Our four day week was full of fun. While the weather was cold outside we stayed warm in the library cozying up to good books. Happy Reading! Miss Gorup We had another busy week in the library! One of the highlights has been our third grade mystery book clubs. Each day they don't want to go when our time is over and ask to read more! I'm so lucky to teach such enthusiastic readers. Enjoy the three day weekend! Miss Gorup While I usually focus on building our library's book collection, this semester I'm going to work on building our photo collection. Using the Collect app, I'll try to capture one moment each day and share them with you at the end of each week. Below you'll find our first "Collect" slideshow. Have a wonderful weekend! Miss Gorup **If you're interested in the app you can read more about it on the Collect site. |
